E is for Easter

Finished my Easter banner today and I'm pretty proud of it. So I'll post it here. In addition to the obvious religious meanings of the Atonement and Resurrection, Easter is one of my favorite family holidays.

is for eating. We always have delicious meals on Easter with lots of food. Like Thanksgiving, Easter is a big food holiday for us. And I can't pass a bakery display of Hot Cross Buns without buying some.

is for all of the family that we can get together, being there. We have had years with fewer and some special years when everyone is there. But we always enjoy each others' company. Since as long as I can remember, being together on Easter has been a priority.

is for surprises that are hidden in the plastic eggs. We stopped using real eggs after "losing" a few in the yard" and not finding them until they had fermented in the sun after a couple of weeks. One of my favorite Easter memories was getting those panorama sugar eggs each year. I loved those.

is for those who aren't with us anymore but who are always in our thoughts. I treasure the memories of my mom and dad watching their grandchildren hunt for eggs in the backyard of our family home. One of our traditions was to take a family photo of them with the kids. These pictures have become even more important now that they aren't with us. We continue this tradition today, taking a family picture on Easter of whoever is there.

is for enjoying all kinds of weather. We have hunted our eggs in the warm sunshine and in the snow. One year at the cabin the Easter Bunny couldn't find his colored plastic eggs and hid white ones in the snow. Those were very hard to find.

is for remembering our Savior and the gift of the Atonement he made possible for us. I am so grateful for the knowledge I have of the Gospel.
