Today was the first anniversary of my 50th birthday. No, I didn't get a horse but I did get to go with Tommy at 10:00 at night to deliver a load of hay.It was a pretty quiet day... sorta. My sister Georgia had Terry come over for the weekend to visit because I was involved with Youth Conference for church. I got up at 6am (on a Saturday!) to get ready to drive a carload of girls over to the conference at Temple Hill in Oakland. Then, after making sure everyone was registered and settled, I left Oakland about 10am to do a little shopping. I treated myself to a new shirt and sweater in a color I normally wouldn't have bought. It's a melon orange and very pretty.
I also got one of those circular knitting looms. I will be helping teach the girls how to use them at camp this year so I thought I better figure out how to use them to make baby stocking caps. I came home to wait for Tommy to finish his basketball game so we could go back to help serve dinner at the youth conference. I turned on an episode of Heroes I had taped and started "knitting". It actually was very relaxing. I didn't get very far but I am determined to finish this hat.
After helping serve the dinner we went to Claim Jumper in Concord for dessert. I had the Lemon Bar Brûlée Cheesecake and Tart Lemon Filling on a Shortbread Crust. It was delicious and I couldn't finish it which means I get to have the rest of it tomorrow. Yum. Tommy had this giant sundae called the Schooner Sundae. It was huge. He finished his, of course!
I had lots of lovely birthday surprises. Yesterday at school I received lots of really nice cards from my coworkers and from students. One of my favorites was from a first grader who said I was a good "collector of books". I also got several great gift cards that I am going to enjoy using and a Brighton necklace with my initial on it. It's very pretty. My auntie sent me this beautiful centerpiece. The eggs in the middle are actually candy.
And I know you are all going to laugh, but the day was pretty near perfect ... there's a Barry Manilow special on PBS!
