My Favorite Month

I love March for so many reasons. There are so many wonderful things about the third month of the year. I love that after a cold, gray winter, full of foggy mornings and skyless days, suddenly green bursts out all over. This was the time of year I moved to this area and I remember thinking how beautifully green the hills were. Granted, it doesn't stay that color that long, but it is glorious while it lasts.
Another reason March tops my list of months is that it brings with it a two week break from school. And since the weather is pretty decent there are alot of options for little day trips. I suppose if I was the gardener type, I might use those two weeks for a little planting. But my thumb is anything but green.
March also is the birth month of some of my dearest friends and family. Happy birthday this month to Aunt Jeanie (who has spoiled me for over half a century), Heather (who takes my side and helps even the odds), Maryann (who is like a sister to me and helped me raise my boys), Suzanne (who is one of the most talented and humble women I know), and Haley (who lets me be her Fairy Godmother) to name just a few.
Other famous March birthdays belong to Dr. Seuss (who taught me to love books), Micky Dolenz (Don't pretend you don't love The Monkees),Fred Rogers (He was such an advocate for children's literacy), and Norah Jones (love, love, love her voice).
March holds some of my other favorite events too including Kindergarten Registration Day (It is so much fun seeing the new little ones who will be joining our school community), St. Patrick's Day (Green pancakes and milk for breakfast), and March Madness (The excitement of college basketball).
Thank goodness March has 31 days.
