28 Days

I don't remember where I read it, but on one of the blogs I was surfing last month the author said that she would be celebrating February with 28 days of love. Her suggestion was based on John 13:34 (A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.) Each day of the month give some act of loving service for a family member, a friend, or a random someone in your life.

This struck me as such a great idea I have decided to see if I can follow through with it. The acts don't need to be huge, grandiose things... Just little things that require a bit of extra effort on my part and designed to let someone else know I care.

Well, I'm one day into this challenge and so far so good. I'll let you know how it turns out.

I also started in on the personal challenge I set for myself this year. The art of letter writing is slowly disappearing from our society and I think that's a shame. As much as I love the power of technology and the handy way we are able to keep in touch through email, texting and instant messaging, there is nothing like finding a letter or card in the mailbox (something other than bills and ads). With that in mind I decided that I will write at least one note each month to someone I admire or appreciate.

A friendship can weather most things and thrive in thin soil; but it needs a little mulch of letters and phone calls and small, silly presents every so often - just to save it from drying out completely. ~Pam Brown
