I Love My Job

I think what the powers that be in Sacramento are doing to schools in California is just short of criminal. But those guys have been trying their best for years to undermine what's actually good for children. They have done their best to take everything that is joyful out of the classroom and now they are making decisions that will forever harm this generation of children. Shame on them. Because of their poor decisions, excellent new teachers are not receiving the support they need and are losing their jobs. Administrators are having to cancel enrichment programs like music, art and theater. Heat is being turned down the minimum. New technology is not being brought into the classroom. Entire schools are being closed. Children are being deprived.
Fortunately, there are so many really good people actually in schools who are doing their best to do everything they can to help and I am lucky enough to work in a whole school of them. I am so lucky to associate every day with the finest women (and a few men) in education. So here are a few of the reasons I love my job (even in these uncertain times in education in California).
1. My principal is an amazing leader who keeps are spirits up with positive comments, notes and encouragement to keep focusing on the children.
2. Kindergartners always come in so excited and never fail to compliment me on my shoes.
3. A third grader told me today, "I love this book, Mrs. Seeno!"
4. Helping Fifth Graders work together on a research project and enjoy it.
5. Gossiping with my friends at lunch about American Idol.
6. I get paid to learn new technology and then I get to teach it to others.
7. I am never lonely! 700 children know my name and I hear "Hello, Mrs. Seeno" almost that many times a day.
8. Well, sometimes It's "Mrs. Casino" and sometimes "Mrs. Cappucino"
9. I read for a living.
10. I get to work with my dear friends or maybe it's that my co-workers have become dear friends (some are even my Facebook Friends).
11. And the bonus in my top ten is that everyday is a new experience.

Valentines Day Project

I saw this project on a blog that had suggestions for Valentine gift ideas and it looked fun. Okay, messy but, yes fun. I made about 80 of them in an afternoon and I am proud to say I only ate two. I'm pretty happy with the finished product and I hope the recipients will be too.
