People who know me well may not know this fact about me... I love basketball. No, pick your jaws up off the floor. I don't mean I love to play the sport (although there was a time when I did over 3 decades ago). I mean I just love watching this sport. It's the only sport I enjoy watching on television.
So the NCAA tournament is something I pay attention to each year. I carefully fill out my brackets. And, although I try not to let too much sentiment enter into my picks, I come up short everytime. There are teams I just have to pick because I have loved watching them over the years. One of those picks is Gonzaga. It's a Catholic school located in Washington State. The only really famous NBA player that I know of out of there is John Stockton, but Bing Crosby graduated from there too. I don't know why I like the Bulldogs but they always have an interesting team.
This year I put too much stock in BYU. I knew I shouldn't have done it, but I had them going into the Elite Eight bracket. Dumb, dumb, dumb.... sentimental but dumb! Especially since they were in vicinity of UConn's march.
I did pretty good in the southern region picks and had NC going into the final four. Unfortunately, I didn't stick with them. And now here they are in the middle of the final game of the tournament with Michigan St. North Carolina is cruising through the game and it looks like they are headed for the win.
Of a possible 62 games I only picked 39 right. Oh well, that's better than half! And Matthew only got 38 out of 62, and Tommy 37 out of 62 (okay, Samuel got 45!).
